Peninsula Family Easter Picnic

Meetoo has two family passes to giveaway to the Peninsula Family Easter Picnic.  This is a big day out with lots of entertainment for the kids including Cadbury Easter egg hunts for 3-12 year olds – expect to leave with a bag full of eggs and your head slightly spinning from the crowd.

When: Sunday 13 April 2014, 10am – 3pm (gates open 9.30am)

Where: Mornington Racecourse, Racecourse Road MORNINGTON

Cost:  General admission $15, children under 3 FREE (unless they wish to participate in the egg hunt, then they require a ticket).  Entry ticket does not include carnival rides and food (other than the eggs collected in the hunt).

We went along in 2013 not really knowing what to expect.  It was massive!  Tickets last year sold out and I would expect that the same will happen in 2014 as it appeared to be a very popular event last year.

We arrived about an hour or so after the gates opened – the car park was already 3/4 full.  It was a stunning day and so everyone had come packed with picnics and rugs and seemed to be setting up for a fun day of entertainment.

The stage area was not far from the main entrance and in-between the acts we know and love (this year the line up includes: Jimmy Giggle, Cat in the Hat, Bananas in Pyjamas, Spot and the Easter Bunny) there were performances by local talent groups – some were pretty cute, others.. well err it’s great to see everyone getting up and having a go, right!

If you could tear yourself away from the stage there was a crafting tent with Easter themed activities to make and colour in, there were side show games (egg & spoon races and sack races) and there were the carnival rides.

When you first arrive at the main gate you are allocated a hunt time depending on age and space (as there are limited numbers allocated to each hunt – and obviously the earlier you arrive at the main gate the more time options you can choose from).  You are also given a bag to collect your eggs in.  About ten minutes before your allocated time you need to make your way to the pen area and find your age groups pen.  Adults are allowed into the pens – but aren’t supposed to touch the eggs (so purely there to stop the kids going bezerk and to hold their bag for them) but you can see in the photographs above what really happened on the day.

Food provided on site in 2013 was a little limited (although we were big fans of the Made Bakery – and apparently in 2014 they are coming back even bigger).  I have been advised that in 2014 there will be more healthy food options including a Texas BBQ.

This is a fun day out if you are looking for entertainment for younger children.  We had another commitment that afternoon but we did stay long enough to enjoy some morning tea, watch quite a few of the performances on the stage,  meet the Bananas in Pyjamas (who were roaming around) get our craft on and partake in an egg hunt.  The earliest available time slot for Imogen’s age group when we arrived that morning was for after midday and unfortunately we couldn’t stay that long – it didn’t matter though (and thankfully she didn’t care) as Charlie collected enough eggs for us to all have a decent little indulgence as well as have more than enough for both kids to share with all their classmates the following week at school and kinder… the number of eggs set out for the hunts was extremely generous, however the degree of difficulty in finding the eggs – about 0!

Just located near the entry is a lost children tent which also had things like complimentary sunscreen on offer – I thought this was a nice touch.
