Guardian Angels Knit For Need

Guardian Angel Knit For Need Program

The Guardian Angel Knit For Need Program is back on again this year and this year donations will go towards supporting Kids with Cancer.

You may have seen my recent post about childhood cancer and our daggy dancing on video for little bub called Finlay (he’s doing much better after an epic 8 hour surgery in Sydney followed by some harrowing weeks recovering back in Perth).  While following Finlay’s journey I have been deeply moved and can only try to imagine what a family must go through emotionally, physically and financially to do everything they can for their sick child – so I am excited to support this wonderful program.

To encourage you to get knitting we are setting up an Instagram challenge so you can show off your work (in progress and/or completed) and go in the running to win a fabulous hamper, valued at $150, from Guardian Pharmacy and Spotlight.

The hamper is valued at around $150 and includes a range of coloured wools, knitting needles, a hand cream from Guardian Pharmacy and a $50 Spotlight voucher. [See below for the hamper photo as well as entry details.]

What’s the Guardian Angel Knit For Need Program all about??Guardian Angels Knit For Need

Now in its 17th year, the Guardian Angel Knitting Program has given the gift of warmth to over 2 million people in need through the generosity of our amazing Guardian Angel knitters. This year Guardian has partnered with the Kids with Cancer Foundation – an organisation that provides assistance for children undergoing treatment for cancer.

WANT TO GET INVOLVED?  To become a Guardian Angel and warm the hearts of seriously ill children all over Australia please grab your knitting needles and get clicking!  If you need some patterns or inspiration check out the Guardian Angel Knit For Need booklet here or pop into your local Guardian Pharmacy and get a FREE printed copy.

Once you have completed your beautiful woollen garment, simply take it to your local Guardian Pharmacy (by September 30 2015). The Kids with Cancer Foundation will then distribute the specially knitted items to a seriously ill child or family member.

KIDS WITH CANCER. Kids with Cancer provides much needed assistance for the youngest of children who are going through cancer treatment. This assistance at the basic level comes to the child’s family when they can no longer pay the family’s day-to-day household bills.  We can relieve some of the burden by paying household bills; electricity, gas, rates, rent or mortgage, school fees, car repairs etc.

YOUR KNITTED GIFT.  Sadly cancer has no age limit and sometimes the youngest of newborn babies can suffer with cancers or leukaemia. A warm knitted gift will provide these children with a level of comfort that only a handmade item can give. Your knitted gift will be distributed nationally to all paediatric cancer wards, cancer families and end of life respite centres. Not to be sold but freely given so that the children suffering from cancer can take advantage of such a wonderful gift. Guardian Angels Knit For Need

How do you enter to win the hamper?

We want to see your amazing creations – and we want you to share them so that others can be inspired to join in the Guardian Angel program too.  Your Instagram photo can be as creative or straight forward as you like, all we ask is that it celebrates your donation to the program and includes all three tags:

  1. #GuardianAngelKnitting
  2. #MeetooAngel
  3. @meetookids

What can you do if you’re not on Instagram or your account is set to private?  This is tricky as my aim is to share Guardian Angel Knit For Need program with as many people as possible – so my only suggestion is that perhaps you ask a family member or friend who has a public account to share your photo on their account on your behalf..

Given this is a project that may (if you’re a hopeless knitter like me) take weeks (cough, months) I am running this competition until 8pm Tuesday 25 August 2015.  And given that donations are accepted all winter – don’t feel that your entries need to show your project fully completed (although I’d love to see the final product so if you do post it after 25 August please do tag me so I can sticky beak!).
