Beginners skate & BMX playground
Looking for a skate park that caters to the tiny kids – something not so daunting as the big skate parks populated by ‘big’ boys? The Beginners Skate Park in H.A. Smith Reserve in Hawthorn is a great space to try hone your skills and confidence.

This skate park leads into the playground so it’s a great addition to the playground and provides a great opportunity for pre-schoolers to try out their scooting and bike riding skills. I would recommend little kids who are trying this out for the first time (or are a little timid around the more confident bigger kids) to visit mid-week as after school and weekends this local skate space is probably going to attract bigger kids – as it did the day we visited. Being a small skate park it very quickly gets quite crowded once there are a few school aged kids in the mix.
The playground also offers some seating for parents and an undercover picnic area (the table was still yet to be installed the day we visited, but the sunshade was in position and the Boroondara Council planner we spoke to at the time said it was coming any day (so hopefully as I write this it’s already in position!).
The skate park and playground are located next to the Gardiners Creek bike track. Public toilets are available across the road. There is a drinking fountain and water-bottle refill station located next to the skate park.
