Review

This quirky publication (part magazine part activity book) is perfectly pitched to school aged children who like to pick things up and return – and BIG is worthy of returning to again and again.  The quality of the publication and its content gives it a timeless and collectible capacity.

It’s clear that BIG is a labor of love… there are some lovely details – including special touches like guest artists and 3D illustrations (complete with 3D glasses).

This is a special addition to any bookshelf – either as a one off or ongoing subscription.

Some words taken from the BIG Kids website:

BIG stands for Bravery, Imagination and Generosity.

The first page of the BIG story was scribed in a note flown from Perth, Western Australia to Sydney, NSW. In it, Jo shared her dream of making a creative arts-based children’s magazine with Lilly which sparked a rapid-fire correspondence and the co-creation of BIG Kids Magazine. Jo’s world is dance. Lilly’s is visual art. They are artists, educators, mothers and now publishers. They have not seen each other for over 12 years and work side by side on BIG from opposite sides of the country.
