Black Hill Hotel Ballarat
The Black Hill Hotel in Ballarat is one of those places only the locals know about… and we can see why it’s a firm favourite!
When: Mondays closed, Thurs – Sun lunches from 11.30am – 2.45pm, Tues – Sun evenings from 4.30 – 10pm (kitchen closes about 8.30pm)
Where: 502 Peel Street BALLARAT
The Black Hill Hotel has a new chef (and new management) and its menu would rival any gastropub in Melbourne.
As we were seated we were presented with markers and crayons so the girls got busy decorating the tables. The boys had discovered the pool table and were busy inventing a game that just required the white ball (economic genius). We put in our orders and very quickly the kids meals appeared. (There are also high chairs available if you need one.)
I ordered one of the favourites on the new winter menu which was the pork belly and it was absolutely delicious. The kids made me share a few “tastes” of my pork as they had meal envy!
For dessert, we shared a white chocolate brownie which was served warm with berries and homemade ice-cream… We restrained ourselves from licking the plate.
The Black Hill Hotel has been around since 1864 and it is, as its name suggests, at the top of a hill. It’s cosy and welcoming with a bar and dining room. In the bar you can find a TV so you can keep an eye on the footy score.
