Boxy & Sticky
From the team who brought you Out of the Blue comes a mischievous adventure to delight and entrance the youngest of theatre-goers.
Created and directed by Sarah Argent.
If you found a cardboard box and a stick, what fun and games could you play with them? Well, they’re not just a box and a stick – they could be whatever you want them to be. The box could be a car, a home, a ship on the sea – and the stick could be the mast holding up your sail!
This playful production encourages your little ones to get lost in the land of imagination.
Stay and play after the performance!
Direct from Wales.
Review by Sally Ridden
Follow the green shrubs and enter into the rehearsal room. Get comfy and low lying on the grass turf or cushions. Imagine you could be whatever you want. Find black dirty boots. Twirl a stick. Knock three times on a large cardboard box that knocks back at you. You can do and be anything if you are Boxy and Sticky!
And with just a few props – a box, a stick, black boots, 2 chairs. This is a delightful story that takes you on a rollicking theatrical performance, improvising, copying and reinterpreting childhood fantasy, familiarity and imagination. Let’s Spin. No let’s sing! Stop copying me. Poke and prod with the young audience laughing uncontrollably along with Boxy and Sticky, and even more so when Sticky become Boxy and Boxy swaps over to impersonate Sticky.
Be hypnotised by not just the stick but the flow of the show. Have the magic turn you into part of the story and play along with the game. Are you able to be nothing? No one likes to be just nothing! Explore the sea, land and sun. Try a food fight with a pardonable burp and a delicious pie on a head.
So much fun, to play with just a box and a stick! Put it all away at the end of the day and at moonlight create a sleeping den. Upon nightfall come up with new names for tomorrows play characters.
When it’s all finished and we clap the end of the show Boxy & Sticky invite the audience to stay and play the copying game – use your eyes and ears and watch closely – copy exactly they do. It’s interactive with giggles, a chicken and tickles. They’ll even turn you into a dinosaur or butterfly. Dancing and stomping little feet getting faster and faster until puffed and tired we stretch and yawn and see exactly how quiet we can be. And then we return to our own make believe. You can be whatever you want to be.
