It’s all about balance – plan some chill out time at home in between out and about activities that way it won’t break the bank plus the kids (and mum!) won’t get over tired and cranky!
We write down all our ideas on separate pieces of paper and put them in a jar. Then each day my daughters take turns in pulling out an ideas day paper and we that activity or go on an adventure for the day…depends on what is written. This way all their fun ideas are done and no one misses out 🤗
I love this!!
I like to allow kids some early downtime days to recover from the school term first and dropping any guilt. Activities more fun when all are a little rested. I’ve booked ‘Farmer for a day’ for kids age 10+ at Collingwood Children’s Farm. They’re very excited about this. Having kids over age of 8 spending some time at Mum or Dad’s work also great insight to kids if your workplace family friendly.
Farmer for a Day sounds like fun- I want to be a kid again!!
I make sure I take 1 weekday off for each child (2 boys) per holiday.
This gives us one on one time that otherwise never happens. We don’t have to spend a lot, they love just hanging out and having your undivided attention!
that’s a lovely idea – they must love having undivided attention!
Head to the the city for the day, loads of free things to do. Walk along Southbank to watch some awesome buskers, head to the great playground at Birrarung Marr, check out the impressive state library, then maybe a sneaky ice cream served by a robot at Fed square #loveyourowncity
How good is the Niska icecream (robot or not!!!)!
Check out the school holiday program at your local library, there are fantastic free activities for kids. Some you need to book in advance so check schedules about a week before school holidays start! My kids have done some amazing activities and watched some great shows at the library in the holidays, they love it!
Libraries are such a great resource for holiday programs!
Have a back up plan if the weather is not great for outdoor activities
We always like to plan a few school holiday highlights on a calendar the week before holidays starts so we have a couple of special treats to look forward to. We also make sure there are a few pj days scattered in there for some down time.
