Flip It

Flip It at ACMI: school holidays

One of the earliest forms of moving image was the Flip Book and these school holidays kids (and parents) can make their very own flip book animation at the FREE drop-in activity at ACMI

When: 11am – 3pm daily until 10 April 2016

Where:  Downstairs at ACMI (enter via Flinders Street entrance), Federation Square MELBOURNE

Cost: FREE

A flip book comprises pages featuring a sequence of drawings or photographs. When they’re flipped through the fingers, they create the illusion of a moving image – the drawings literally come to life in your hands!

Flip It is a drop-in activity which takes about 15 – 30 minutes and can be done independently (with parental supervision) or parents can join in the fun.  We visited on a weekday afternoon and there was no wait time for table space (however ACMI activities can be very popular on weekends so if you’re visiting on a weekend you may have to wait).  If you’d rather sit back and watch the kids there is nearby comfy seating and free wifi on offer.

Flip It is located just outside Screen Worlds (be sure to check out the recently updated Games Lab section if you are into computer games) and suits 5-10 year olds.

Upstairs is the cinema (check out the Kids Flicks) and also I can highly recommend the ACMI Cafe (check our review here).

Looking for other school holiday activities at ACMI – check out our review of the Family Claymation Workshops (happening this April).
