Frocking up for Frocktober, Frock Friday

“Frock up” this October to raise vital research funds for ovarian cancer.  I am joining the Frock Friday challenge!

When: Every Friday during October wear a Frock and raise funds for research into ovarian cancer

What:  Frocktober is an annual philanthropic campaign held each October that is accessible to all Australians passionate about women’s health. The campaign invites anyone to take on one or all of the Frocktober challenges (yes, the boys too!) or simply sponsor/donate to those friends, family and colleagues who support the campaign. It’s all about having some fun with fashion with heart.

So one of my resolutions this year was to get out of my comfort zone and have a bit more fun – Frocktober allowed me to do both those things as well as helping a good cause and having an excuse to collaborate with a dear friend.

I am very honoured to be a Face of Frocktober.

So first – what do you need to do?

You can support via my frock efforts and/or you can join in the Frock action and start your own campaign by signing up here.

Today’s theme in the Frocktober challenges was FAVOURITE FROCK and I have to say that I love this amazing dress from Ted Baker (hello perfect Derby Day dress!).  My amazing stylist friend (with a rocking wardrobe) was on hand to work her magic in the styling department (she also did pretty awesome hair, makeup and photography – hello quadruple threat) and added a glamorous bag, Marc Jacob shoes (from Myer), vintage earrings and a jacket to finish off the look.

I had loads of fun dressing up – even got a whistle from a passing traddie – but oh was I happy to get back into my leggings and flats afterwards.  So clearly I am not a “frock every day” kind of girl (because no one wants to see me rotating my three denim dresses for a month!) but I love that I can dress up to the max four times! {Check out frock #2 and frock #3!}

And maybe it took about 200 photo’s to get three where I wasn’t squinting or pulling some odd expression (and okay maybe my mate got four out of focus) – and I definitely felt awkes as people in the street walked past, but it turned out to be okay – I survived, it really wasn’t that scary being on the other side of the camera… pushing publish on the other hand…!  But this is a tiny discomfort (and for the most it’s fun) – for what I hope will raise awareness (and funds) for a special charity… one day hopefully helping women (and their families) avoid heartache and loss.

Ovarian cancer claims the life of one woman every 10 hours in Australia. There is no early detection test. There is no cure. This disease affects women of all ages. It could be your mother, wife, sister, friend or even your daughter.frocktober

Challenge 1 – Wear a frock every day for the month of October

The famous 31 day challenge. Ask friends and family to sponsor you in your efforts to don a different dress for 31 days. Get some help and do a frock swap. Encourage them to take up the challenge with you. The more the merrier. Follow our themes (attached) or come up with your own.

Challenge 2 – Frock up to fundraise every Friday in October

Get the whole office involved in this challenge. Encourage your colleagues to bring in a gold coin or more for a new twist to ‘free dress’ Fridays. Rope in the boss to commit to wearing a dress if you reach your fundraising target….they find it hard to say no to a philanthropic campaign!

Or get dressed up and celebrate the end of the week by catching up with friends for Friday night frocktails!  Have it at home, charge an entry fee to cover the normal happy hour spend that can then all be donated. There’s nothing like a good cause to make Friday the true fun day.

Challenge 3 – Host a fabulous one off Frocktober event

Go with a fun filled, fancy dress or fabulous Frock theme. Aim for 40 attendees or more, each of whom are required to make a donation on entry. Serve your favourite fondue, French Fries, fresh fruit, Fanta or foie gras and make a difference!
