Garfield, the Musical with Cattitude

Who knew that Garfield and his friends could sing and dance?  Garfield the Musical is a fun and bright addition to the Melbourne International Comedy Festival these school holidays!

When: until 14 April 2018

Where: Chapel Off Chapel, 12 Little Chapel Street PRAHRAN

Cost: $24.50-$26.50, comedyfestival.com.au/2018/shows/garfield-the-musical-with-cattitude

This one hour performance (no interval) is like broadway for kids.  The story line is interjected with energetic upbeat song and dance numbers that are nicely balanced out with Garfield’s dry depressive humour (that we love).

There was plenty to smile at throughout – some of the younger members of the audience were heckling Garfield at times!  We particularly enjoyed a very silly conversation Odie has about his flea collar.  Each of the characters are fabulous, but Garfield and Odie were our faves.

Chapel Off Chapel is a great theatre space for young audiences as it’s not too big – allowing the audience to get very close to the action.  We happened to be some of the first people in the door and so sat in the front row. I would almost suggest this was too close (not that there was audience participation to worry about!) only if you find eye contact with performers slightly unnerving (could just be me, the kids were not fussed!) you might want to not sit front and centre.

I loved reading Garfield comics as a kid – and the musical stage production reminded me why.  Quite simply, life comes down to friends, family and food… an electric blanket and TV are just the icing on the {chocolate} cake.

I would recommend this show for ages 4-10+.
