Jardin Tan Kiosk
Shannon Bennett recently relaunched the Observatory Cafe at the Botanic Gardens – it’s now known as Jardin Tan. Myself, a friend and our littles decided to check into the Kiosk for lunch and a coffee.
When: 8am – 4pm daily
Where: Royal Botanic Gardens, Birdwood Avenue SOUTH YARRA (next to the Observatory, opposite the Shrine)
Review
The old cafe space has had a fab make over which includes plantations of herbs and vegetables (used by the chefs in the cooking). The tourist and mummy crowd seemed to be replaced by a slightly groovier crew – but I am sure this displacement is just temporary (as the Kiosk had only opened the week we visited after being closed for some months during the renovations).
The coffee and atmosphere was spot on, the sweet treats were amazing – but the lunch menu was a little challenging for the kids (lucky I had packed an emergency vegemite sandwich). I ordered the Pho and phew – it was so spicy my ears were ringing (okay I am complete wuss when it comes to hot food).
There was plenty of space for the kids to mess about (the Kiosk is outdoor seating only) but that said there was also many obstructions to our view, so my friend and I took turns to follow (okay chase) her three year old around the maze of pots and ramps.
Since our visit the main Eatery has now opened (click here for the menu) as well as the Banh Mi Bikes – these sound pretty cool as they can deliver your order to you within the Botanical Gardens! Picnic delivery – that sounds like my kind of picnic.
