Review

Before we made it inside the museum the kids spied the fabulous adventure playground outside and we let them go for a run around given the sky was clear (make hay while the sun shines right?!).  By the time we’d dragged them out of the playground it was lunchtime so rather than braving the museum on empty tummies we made a pitstop at the Saltbush Cafe – this was a fabulous place for lunch, I’d happily go back again.  They had kids meals on the menu (toasties and sausage rolls) and everyone was happy – the coffee was good too!

The Museum of Australian Democracy at Eureka itself is fairly small, but it’s content rich.  There is a kids activity sheet to complete (for school aged children) and also a section where they can design their own flags.

The displays are a combination of artefacts and interactive screens.  Be sure not to miss the original Eureka flag (hidden in a darkened room off to the side of the main space).

Our visit to the museum itself was probably only about 30 minutes long but combined with our lunch and outside play it was all up just over two hours.

M.A.D.E. is one of the venues included in the Ballarat Pass – purchase a pass and enjoy entry to four great venues as well as other discounts.
