Piggery Cafe – Burnham Beeches
About a 45-minute drive from Melbourne is the rather gorgeous Piggery Cafe – set in the old piggery buildings of Burnham Beeches (a 1930s streamline-moderne mansion located in the Dandenongs).
When: 10am to 5pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 5pm Saturday and Sunday, for more info visit their website piggerycafe.com.au
Where: 1 Sherbrooke Rd, SHERBROOKE
The Piggery Cafe, on a fair weather day, is the kind of venue you can set up stumps! With plenty of space to run around, outdoor games aplenty and even some pigs to visit – this is a spot that begs you to hang out and enjoy the fresh air of the Dandenongs (and there is a menu developed by Shannon Bennett to keep you nourished).
The cafe and bakery offer quality fare and a mix of inside and outside seating. Oozing rustic charm and style I can’t wait to return* for lunch sometime soon – and it’s the kind of spot that is conducive to a catch up with friends and a picnic rug.
Visiting the pigs and playing the little kids outdoor games is complimentary. But, if you want to step it up a notch and play croquet, lawn bowls or bocce you can book a spot (includes the kit) for $10/hr/person.
*We arrived just after 4pm on the Monday of a long weekend so the food options were pretty much cleared out and limited to take away.
