Thank you to our wonderful guest reviewer Sally T. Ridden and her mini reviewer for this fabulous review and photos.

Pop Up Park, (meaning limited time of course!) was a free Manningham Council school holiday event that Sally and her son Dex attended in March 2015.

Each day games and activities were set up and over-seen by friendly on-site Event Staff. A fabulous concept and use of common space, suited for all ages whilst encouraging the whole community to explore and participate in free play, structured activities, even team building opportunities in the transformed forecourt filled with interactive large scale outdoor games, giant inflatables and popular gigantic sports games.

My 3.5 year old son loved the Giant Games – crashing (not, the building of) the giant wooden Jenga sets the event staff patiently rebuilt.  Connect Four held his attention for more time than I thought even possible. His first game of giant Chess was all about repeatedly jumping onto and over the horses to then crash. We breezed past the gigantic Noughts and Crosses and Tumbling Dominoes.

The Vintage Games Turf Croquet and Hula Hoops were the hits out of the Backyard Games selection even though he did try Juggling but conked himself one too many times.  Memories of my childhood recess came flooding back during Hopscotch and Four-Square and the good ol’ fabulous Elastics.

The Relaxed Games of Snakes & Ladders, Checkers and selection of Brain- teasers were not at all on his radar.  The Tennis and Badminton entertained him as did the inflatable Basket Ball hoops and Soccer nets. Both the Mini Golf and Tenpin Bowls games had no fair way of being scored, as he just stood in the middle of everyone’s game “helping”.

We had creative fun with chalk graffiti on walkways (rather than the designated chalkboards).  The mini play-zone was appreciated on the second visit, as on the first visit it was all about experiencing the inflatables toys he had never seen before.  The big sandpit with dinosaurs and hidden treasure was another crowd favourite and as always if you give a child a cardboard box they are happy, so when you give them a collection of boxes making a maze tunnel of flaps, windows and peek holes that he could cheekily hide away from me, chances of us leaving became slim.

Definitely keep a look out for their next pop up park, it’s gigantic fun for all the kids!

My Notes:
