Interactive Flying Display

Review

Charlie (4) and I had a great time exploring the RAAF Museum – two hangers filled with beautifully restored and presented aircraft, from helicopters and fighter jets to missiles and early training planes… this is a little slice of history that is bound to resonate with most young boys.  The Museum also includes some informative displays (we were quite taken by the very life-like wax mannequins in the display cabinets!) complete with interactive screens and video displays.

The highlight (especially given it was a sunny day) was watching the Interactive Flying Display.  I learnt some new things… like RAAF Base Williams is heritage listed (along with icons like the Sydney Harbour Bridge) and this is the oldest, still operating, Base in the world..

Given that you are visiting an actual operating RAAF Base you do need to show photo ID when arriving (children are not required to do this) to the security at the main gate, and you will be given an ID tag to wear whilst visiting.

Other than that you just turn up – no bookings required.  Also there are some picnic tables and umbrellas provided – but other than a drinking fountain (inside the exhibition) there is absolutely no food or drink available on site.  The gift shop has loads of model aeroplanes and those sew on (or maybe iron on) badges.. perfect for any budding RAAF pilot.
