Three places to grab a meal in Ballarat with kids
We recently visited Ballarat and while we were there we dined out with the kids a few times… these were three places to grab a kid friendly meal I’d happily recommend.
Saltbush Kitchen at M.A.D.E.
102 Stawell St South BALLARAT, open 10am – 5pm daily
This is a great pit stop for lunch or morning/afternoon tea. The menu is great (with kids menu options) for families and the offering is of a rustic home made nature – including native bush ingredients. The atmosphere was fairly relaxed and while it was busy enough (on a Wednesday during the school holidays) it certainly wasn’t crowded and the service was friendly and good. Outside (but not in view of the cafe) is a fantastic adventure playground, grassy slopes and the site of the Eureka Stockade (complete with cannons). And next door is the Museum of Australian Democracy at Eureka (worth a visit if you’re looking for something educational to do).
9379 Western Highway WARRENHEIP, open 8am – 9pm (Friday and Saturday open until 11pm)
Just before your enter Ballarat (if you’re travelling from Melbourne) and about 2 minutes passed Kryal Castle is a fabulous cafe and wood fired pizza restaurant. We stopped here for a morning coffee and were so impressed we returned for lunch a few hours later – the pizza’s were delicious and the kids meals were high quality. This is a fantastic spot to stop for a coffee or a meal on your way in and out of town. The roaring fire, welcoming staff and great coffee will have you coming back again for more.
Fu Man Lou
10 Camp Street BALLARAT, open Tues – Sun 11.30am – 2.30pm and 5.30pm to late
If your kids love dumplings then this is a great family dinning option in the centre of town. High chairs are available and it’s wise to book ahead. These weren’t the best dumplings I have ever had but the menu was easy for kids, the vibe groovy and the service friendly. Oh and there was deep fried ice-cream for dessert. mmmmmm yummy
