Tommee Tippee Express and Go (WIN)

Tommee Tippee Express and Go (WIN)

At some point in the baby feeding game, if you’re breastfeeding, you may need to store excess milk – it’s very handy for those times when you’re not there.  Tommee Tippee’s closer to nature® Express and Go storage and heating system make both the storage and the warming of breast milk super easy.

What:  tommee tippee® closer to nature® Express and Go Complete Breast Milk Starter Set

Cost:  RRP$130.  The range is available at Babies R Us, Baby Bunting and Big W.

When you have a newborn baby there is a lot of anxiety around keeping all the expressing and bottling equipment clean and sterile, there is also anxiety about what temperature to serve the milk at and then there is the challenge of getting that bottle ready ASAP – babies just don’t have any appreciation for “just a moment” nor do they tolerate novices fumbling and bumbling about in the wee hours of the morning.

All that stuff to sterilise (and reassemble)

If for some reason the mother with the boobie juice happens to not be available when her infant requires a feed – it makes sense to leave a supply behind for the surrogate.. and it makes sense that what is left for the surrogate is fail proof and simple – because there is nothing like the cry of a baby to send even the most level headed person into a dither.

My milk bar shut up shop years ago – but oh, I do remember expressing and storing my precious mls of milk in the most awkward of storage systems (back in the olden days)… and yes I have cried over spilt milk.  So to help review this product I have enlisted the help of my sister-in-law and brand new nephew Oliver.

Unfortunately the day before I visited to take my photos Oliver’s dad had been babysitting and had used up the four pouches of breast milk Georgie had prepared – so the pouches in my photos are empty.  But Georgie was very enthusiastic at how useful they have been and how often she has used them.  Being able to feed Oliver breast milk whenever possible has been a definite bonus – and while he’s still very young it has meant that Georgie has been able to leave Oliver if she needs to, which is no mean feat when they need feeding every couple of hours.  Oliver’s dad is doing the nightly “dream feed” and Georgie is expressing at other times to help with the production (as Oliver hits that 8-week spurt) – and so they really are in the thick of milk storage and feeding!

The tommee tippee® closer to nature® system allows you to express directly into the milk storage pouches – removing the need to disinfect bottles and double handle the milk.  The storage pouch can go straight into the freezer or the fridge to be used later.  When it is needed it can be warmed and then inserted directly into the pouch bottle.

While Georgie had lots of good things to say about the system she also added that the bottles size is probably better suited to slightly bigger babies (that was also partly her personal preference) and the milk warmer – well they are both still experimenting with it while they figure out the right setting for Oliver.  Georgie thought perhaps their bottles were overheating slightly as they only had small quantities of milk in them – when Oliver is older and drinking much more in one feed then the bottles will be fuller and possibly won’t be prone to overheating.
