Top three things to do in Hobart with kids
Hobart is wonderfully kid friendly and it’s tricky to choose just three things to share – but if we were touching down in Hobart with kids for just a day or two these would be the top spots I would recommend you totally check out!
Museum of Old and New Art (MONA)
655 Main Road Berriedale, Hobart TASMANIA, open Wednesdays to Mondays 10am – 6pm
MONA is a great adventure to experience with kids. The architecture is inspiring, the artwork a complete mixed bag and the surrounds (view, garden, outdoor sculptures) add another element of exploration. If you catch the ferry over then you really couldn’t get a better day out. The museum is vast – there is plenty to see – and the complimentary “O” guide (in the form of an iPod Touch) is a fabulous distraction for little hands when mum and dad want to slow down the pace and soak up the art.
Cadbury Chocolate Factory – sadly the Factory is no longer open to the public
100 Cadbury Road, Claremont, TASMANIA, open Monday to Friday 8.30am – 3.30pm
Let’s get one thing straight here, there really isn’t much to see at the Cadbury Factory. You will see the external buildings at a distance, you will see the gift shop and the chocolate shop and the cafe and you will see a demonstration that explains the journey of a cacao bean through to a Freddo. You will also get a small gift bag (with a few samples in it). But chocolate loving kids LOVE it. If you haven’t been before and your kids are keen to go it’s mildly interesting and shouldn’t take up any more than an hour of your day (and possibly set you back $40 if you get lured into the chocolate shop like I did!). You’ll also learn interesting facts like: the only month Easter eggs aren’t produced is the actual month of Easter.
Simmons Park
Esplanade, Lindisfarne TAS
Simmons Park playground has only recently been constructed and it’s a fantastic facility. Water views, spotless undercover picnic facilities and a neighbouring playing field make this a playground one that will suit families of all ages.
