Make your own mini animal from the Victorian Cretaceous period to add to Scienceworks giant diorama.

Museum Preparators have made an amazing dinorama for visitors to add to this winter. Imagine a miniature landscape complete with river bed, trees and a suite of animals from the Victorian Cretaceous period, created in an old-fashioned museum diorama style.

Visitors can choose to make a miniature of one of three animals – Koolasuchus cleelandi, Serendipaceratops arthurcclarkei or Quantassaurus intrepidus – all which lived in Victoria 120 million years ago.3723_whatson_size235x400

The Light Spectacular

From auroras to the zodiac, humans have marvelled at lights of nature. Scienceworks is celebrating our Year of Light with a new Lightning Room show about the science of light and the amazing technologies that use it.

In this 30-minute live show, you’ll learn about LEDs, LCDs and lasers. Come along and marvel at the powerful lights of nature when we generate real high-energy plasmas in our Lightning Room.

Tyrannosaurs – Meet the Family

Tyrannosaurs – Meet the Family is an interactive exhibition for families which presents the tyrannosaurus family and the latest scientific dinosaur discoveries from Saturday 23 May at Scienceworks. Featuring augmented reality, multimedia experiences and a fascinating array of fossils and casts of tyrannosaurus specimens, the exhibition features life-sized dinosaur skeletons, including ‘Scotty’ the Tyrannosaurus rex and a Guanlong wucaii, one of the oldest tyrannosaurs found to date.

Exciting new discoveries continue to keep people enthralled by dinosaurs and are causing the tyrannosaurus family tree to be re-evaluated. Based on information from the latest breakthroughs and designed to combine the oldest fossils with the latest interactive technology, this exhibition will engage kids with a fascinating snapshot of dinosaur life.

Key highlights of the exhibition:

  • Meet ‘Scotty’ the 5m high and 11m long Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton.
  • Augmented reality exhibit which allows kids to interact with tyrannosaurs via a live video feed.

Hands-On Plant Workshops

Discover the origins of common garden plants in this hands-on workshop with Do It On The Roof.
Where did the plants in your garden come from, and how did they get here? Get your hands dirty with our special guest facilitators Do It On The Roof in this horticultural and gardening workshop designed especially for kids.
