Kitten Kaboodle at the NGV Kids Summer Festival
Meetoo (that’s me) and tiny & little (Natalie Barnes) are joining forces for the third year running to deliver a fun and whimsical activity for the NGV Kids Summer Festival. This year’s project is Kitten Kaboodle.
When: 21 – 25 January 2016, 10am – 3pm daily
Where: The Great Hall, NGV International, St Kilda Road MELBOURNE
Cost: FREE
Inspired by the Andy Warhol | Ai WeiWei exhibition and Studio Cats, currently open at the NGV, we’re embracing the kitten theme in a creative paper workshop called Kitten Kaboodle!
Join Natalie, from tiny & little, and I as we create unique paper kitten characters with fabulous couture outfits, inspired by the quirky 1980s Japanese Namennayo* cats trend. For extra play fun, kittens can be transformed into finger puppets.
This workshop is a drop-in activity that you can make as brief or as drawn out as you like (within the time frame of 10am – 3pm!). With super cute kittens to choose from, the hardest decision will be working out which one you want to dress… or maybe you’ll dress all four.
Can’t make it in to see us? We’d love to invite you to follow along and see the fun creations, along with some ideas for how you can play at home, by following @meetookids and @tinyandlittle on Instagram and checking out the hashtag #ngvkittenkaboodle.
If you’re heading into the gallery early in the festival (the NGV Kids Summer Festival runs 16-26 January) be sure to stop by and say hi to our friend Pip from Meet Me At Mikes who is running the Wishing Flowers workshop from 16-20 January in the Great Hall.
Check out the full listing for the 11-day long NGV Kids Summer Festival here.
*Please note, no kittens will be harmed in making of this workshop possible (google Namennayo Cats and you’ll know what I am talking about!)
Hi Suzan – this is a drop in activity so absolutely requires parental supervision! With the younger kids they may need assistance with the cutting and pasting part (depending on how dextrous they are) but I am sure the colouring in bit will be fine for their age. There are a number of other activities happening in the gallery for the Kids Festival (spread between the Great Hall and back garden) so I am sure there will be fun for all three.
Hi there
Thanks for inviting, I just wanted to know if we have to drop our children or we can stay too, I have 7 years old and Twins 3 years old . Is their age suitable for this activity?
Kind regards
Suzan
