Review

Featuring a cast of 45 acrobats, actors, musicians and singers this production will have you captivated from beginning to end.

Cirque du Soleil productions are always on a complete other level to anything else you will see.  The costumes are exquisite, the feats are mind blowing and the engineering of the stage is awe-inspiring.  TOTEM is a fast paced show – there isn’t too much self indulgent story telling to distract us from what we came for – the physical brilliance of the performers.

The clowning is paired back (compared to other productions).  This less is more approach ensured that we enjoyed every moment the clowns came out to break the tension – it was a relief to move off the edge of our seats for a bit and enjoy a laugh; it was also a relief that we didn’t have to sit back for too long either.

This production is great for families as the theme is largely left for us to draw our own interpretations of (and it’s not too deep).  TOTEM is about the physical brilliance of the performers – supported by the costumes, staging and music.

The two hours of performance is broken with a 20 minute interval – and your 2 hours and 20 minutes goes very quickly.  School aged children will have no issue with sitting for two blocks of time as would younger children who have had live show experiences before.

This is a treat that will be long remembered.
