Gotta love a local pool

Even if you’re lucky enough to have access to a private pool – the local pool is a great place to hang out with little children.

Why?  Well, it’s usually much more interesting than a backyard pool because the kids can interact with others, grown-ups can do a spot of people-watching, there’s the possibility we might bump into a friend (or plan to meet some) and there is more than one pool to swim in.

The Lorne Baths refurbishment has just been completed (they opened to the public on Boxing Day 2011) and the facelift and upgrade in amenities is a huge boost for this central hub on Lorne’s foreshore.  While the pool is unheated (heating is coming in stage 3 of the development {now complete}, as is a steam room) currently it is a delightful 22C – and the heated spa provides hot relief.  A great spot for those days when it’s not exactly glorious beach weather – which, let’s face it, is not uncommon during summer in Lorne, or when you need a break from the beach sand.  The trampolines have provided generations of children with loads of fun – and now there is mini golf and bumper boats all located next to an awesome public playground.

We love Prahran Pool – it’s a bit like a beach holiday… populated and festive when the sun shines and left to the serious swimmers the rest of the time.  Its on-site cafe is a definite plus.. nothing beats a hot day at the pool with an icy pole.  If the Klims come here with their kids for a dip, then you know you’re onto something good!

Harold Holt offers loads and is definitely a fantastic resource for learning to swim and its overall fitness and health services.. Its indoor play area is great for keeping the kids entertained on both colder days and also days when you want to keep out of the sun.  However a note to parents – it gets pretty loud inside, even just on a regular weekday.  Also there is currently no cafe (just a couple of vending machines with drinks and snacks) but apparently, this is coming.
