Slathering the kids in sunscreen is never failsafe – and not all swimwear is created equal. The Platypus Australia range is not only cool enough for even the fussiest of kids – for parents, these bathers offer peace of mind: they offer 50+UV coverage (blocking out at least 97.5% of harmful ultraviolet radiation) and the quality of construction and design is beautiful.

There is a lot to love about the Platypus range… First up the pieces are mix and matchable, so you can create loads of your own looks… and there are lots of different designs in tops and bottoms. The range is beautifully designed (I wish it came in adult sizes!) and sizes cover babies through to a kids size 14. Platypus Australia is made with LYCRA® XTRA LIFE™ because of its amazing shape-retention, maximum breathability and most importantly it’s ultra chlorine resistance properties.
Charlie (10) is really slim but also really long! So, on his bottom half, he wears a size 10 (the boardies have elastic in the waist to allow some room to grow). The boardies are made from a superfast drying fabric – he drip-dried in moments. On his top half he is wearing a size 12 – giving him some extra length in his rashie arms and body, ensuring that the small of his back is properly covered as well as up to his neck and right down to his wrists. Charlie is the kind of kid who doesn’t sit still – and he’s still at an age where he can’t be trusted to apply his own sunscreen (generally this results in half a bottle on his legs and nothing on his neck). So the more coverage for him from his swimwear the better!
Immi (13) is wearing size 14 – I decided to go bigger. Her rashie has just a little extra room to grow which is awesome. She loves the easy zip on and off – and we mixed and matched with girls lycra board shorts (think more like bike shorts as they are made from the same LYCRA® XTRA LIFE™ that is used for the rashies and bathers) and bikinis.
