Winter Wonderlights: Christmas in July at Sovereign Hill

The Winter Wonderlights experience at Sovereign Hill is a magical way to end a wonderful day out in the 1950’s theme park of Ballarat.

When: Daily during July, light show begins about 5.45pm

Where:  Bradshaw Street BALLARAT

Cost:  The Winter Wonderlights is included with your admission, click here to book tickets.  Also, note that you can have your ticket stamped as you exit entitling you with a free return visit the next day (a great way to see everything at Sovereign Hill!)

We are suckers for a day out at Sovereign Hill followed by the Winter Wonderlights show – it might be cold (and possibly raining) but that never dampens the spirits for a big day out.  (Plus you’d be surprised at how many things there are to do that are indoors.)

We have been a few times (you can find old reviews here: 2016, 2015, 2014) so we know what we are in for – and the kids love it.

To visit all the major sights at Sovereign Hill you really need a full day to explore – it can be exhausting.  If you have the luxury to do so I highly encourage you to take advantage of the FREE next day pass-out – come back and see the bits you missed at leisure!

In 2017 the light show has grown bigger, with over 20 building in Main Street lit up with magical projections.

Enjoy the fire pits dotted along Main Street to keep you warm as you wander.  Or grab a hot snack or hot drink (mulled wine is my fave) to keep your fingers warm.

Here is a little video we made as the sun was setting over Sovereign Hill on Tuesday 4 July 2017.

We got to Sovereign Hill just after lunch and managed to revisit some of our favourite Sovereign Hill destinations… you can see more in the video:
